Restoring Foundations: From Hurting to Healthy

Upon stepping into a new leadership role as a church’s Children’s Ministry Director, Jennifer inherited a team that was low in morale, lacking momentum and suffering from a high volume of employee turnover.

She quickly saw a critical lack of trust between her team and previous leadership, which had caused a slow and steady erosion of healthy work culture over time.

Jennifer was determined to change the team’s dynamics and redirect their course.

As a new leader, she knew that investing in the women on her team and leading them back into a healthy work environment was something worth fighting for.

The question was, how?

Jennifer had been exposed to WinShape and experienced several of the organization’s ministries during different seasons of her life up until that point, but not WinShape Teams.

Yet.

When Jennifer learned about WinShape Teams’ two-day Team Essentials experience, she realized the solution had been right under her nose the whole time.

Jennifer understood the time commitment she would be asking her team to make by stepping away from their work and families, but she saw the bigger picture and knew it was worth the investment.

Jennifer and her team were soon on their way to Team Essentials, a program designed to teach the five foundational components of teaming – all addressed and evaluated through the lens of the DiSC assessment.

During their experience, Jennifer and her team were able to find a safe space to be vulnerable, have intentional conversations, and create meaningful memories under the guidance of their program consultants.
After returning to work, Jennifer began to schedule regular one-on-one meetings with staff members to check in and see how they were doing in life and at work.

It was quick to see that taking time to step away, having a shared experience, and equipping themselves with principles of healthy teaming had given her team a platform to heal and grow.
“It has changed everything, from one person’s attitude to the health of the whole team,” Jennifer says.
Since their Team Essentials experience, her team has found success in building healthy group dynamics, deepening relationships and establishing rapport around their organization.

They’re better able to understand, support and celebrate others in the department. And, from a business perspective, they have been able to take bigger steps toward accomplishing their goals and initiatives.

This team – once hurting and unfulfilled – is now known as the “fun” department at work, and they’re drawing a lot of attention from the other divisions in their organization for it.

For Jennifer, coming to a WinShape Teams experience was “the cherry on the whip cream of everything we’ve been working on” – so good, in fact, that she and her staff call the experience “worth every penny” and something they would pay for on their own just to be able to come back.

And WinShape Teams can’t wait to serve them when they do.
